Lebanon junior Katie Esther is coming off a volleyball season where she received many accolades.

Esther was named second team All-Ozark Conference and was a first team All-District selection last year and helped lead the ‘Jackets to a second place finish in the Missouri Class 4 District 10 tournament.

An outside hitter, Esther was second on the team in overall kills behind former Lebanon volleyball standout Faith Alwardt.

Lebanon head volleyball coach Jenny Collins had high praise for Esther and is looking forward to watching her grow as a player.

“(Katie) will see the ball a lot on the outside,” Collins said. “However we have taken advantage of her versatility and allowing her to hit out of serve receive in the middle and right side.

“(Katie) is fun to watch and has to the ability to be a game changer on the floor.”

Collins said despite having an outstanding sophomore season, Esther has improved on her game all summer.

“She has played for Springfield Juniors all summer,” Collins said. “That will bring her plenty of experience playing against some of the best competition in the state.

“She has developed a nice jump float serve and when consistent has also added to her scoring ability.”

The Daily Record recently caught up with Esther to ask her about the upcoming volleyball season.

LDR – Talk about the strengths of your game and what you give on the court.

Katie – I think some of my strengths on the court are my hitting and serving. Also, just giving a lot of effort for the ball and my team. Whatever it takes to win, I am willing to do.

LDR – What are some things you have tried to improve on during the offseason?

Katie – During the offseason I have really tried to improve my speed, strength, and consistency as a player.

LDR – What club volleyball team do you play for? How does that certain program help your game?

Katie – I play for the Springfield Juniors and they’re a really competitive club. The girls on my team are really good and have pushed me to better myself. My coaches are really great and fun to have too.

LDR – What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?

Katie – What I’m looking forwards to the most are the home games. They’re my favorite part because it’s a lot more fun when most of the crowd is cheering for us.

LDR – What do you enjoy most about your club team and why?

Katie – I really enjoy my club team because we always get to travel to really cool places and get to play new people, not just the same teams over and over.

LDR – What got you interested in volleyball? Do you have a specific memory that you enjoy most?

Katie – I remember being in 7th grade and coming to a varsity volleyball game one time. I thought that it was so cool how good they were, and I wanted to be just as good someday; if not better. It was my dream to play on varsity my freshman year so I worked really hard and my dream came true.
