Senior Toni Pena was one of six seniors honored before the soccer game on Friday night against the West Plains Zizzers. The ‘Jackets won the contest, 3-1.

After honoring six seniors before the game, the Lebanon girls’ soccer team defeated the West Plain Zizzers in an Ozark Conference showdown on Friday night at ‘Jacket Stadium, 3-1.

The ‘Jackets wasted no time getting things started as LHS started off when senior Lexi Wapelhorst added two early goals in the first half to add on to her career total and give Lebanon a 2-0 lead.

“She (Lexi) had a couple great turns with some great footwork and just had a couple rockets sneak past the goalie,” Lebanon head coach Matt Jernigan said. “That is something Lexi has been doing four years for us so it was nice to see an early lead.”

Later on in the first half, Lebanon senior Mariah Mitchell headed a ball off a corner kick into the back of the net to cap the‘Jackets scoring for the game.

“She (Mariah) has been really excited about getting those goals on corners on headers,” Jernigan said. “That is her fifth goal off a header this season and that is sort of a goal she set for herself. So getting that fifth header on a corner was pretty awesome for her on Senior Night.”

The Zizzers got a goal in the second half to cut the Lebanon lead to 3-1, but that is all the ‘Jackets would surrender.

“We knew coming into the game that it would be important to score early against them (West Plains),” Jernigan said. “The second half it got kind of rough in the game, but our girls kept their composure and did not let it get out of hand.
