Robert M. Gifford

Robert M. Gifford, 68, of Lebanon, died Thursday evening, Aug. 10, 2017, at his home near Lebanon.

He was born March 22, 1949, in Santa Barbara, Calif. to William Henry and Helen Marie Monson Gifford, who preceded him in death.

Robert was raised in San Diego, Calif., where he graduated from high school and attended college for a couple of years. He then entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 until 1968. He served in the Vietnam War and received two Purple Heart Medals for his heroic service. He then returned to California where he worked for Hawthorn Machinery for several years. He moved to Lebanon, retiring in 2014. He was involved in all types of endeavors with Laclede Electric including the golf tournaments, the booth at the Missouri State Fair, and many other events.

He was raised in the Lutheran faith. He was very involved in the American Cancer Society and had taken part in the Relay for Life.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina Marie Starkey and her husband, Henry, of Aurora, Colo. and Mindalynn Gifford Sanders and husband, Will, of Elkmont, Ala.; a son, Darron Gifford, of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Bill Gifford and his wife, Donna, of Lincoln City, Ore. and Rodney Gifford and his wife, Cindy, of Lebanon; a sister, Connie Erickson, of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews, and his fiancee, Janet Myers, of Lebanon.

Funeral services for Robert M. Gifford will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, in Holman-Howe Funeral Home with Will Sanders officiating, under the care and direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until service time Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society may be made through the funeral home.
