David Oliver Thompson, 73, of Richland, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in his home near Richland.

He was born May 22, 1944 in Waco, Texas to Jack French and Mary Louise Smith Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was born in Waco, Texas and then moved with his family to a farm near Phillipsburg. He netered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He then began working as a truck driver and was employed by several different companies through the years. From 1986 until retiring in 2006, he drove for Wal Mart.

He was a member of the Lebanon Elks Lodge for several years and enjoyed farming in his spare time.

He is survived by two sons, Andrew and Anthony Thompson, both of Grand Island, Neb.; a daughter, Carman Rowe; a brother, Paul Thompson and his wife of Phillipsburg; a sister, Ruth Mabary of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews.

Services for David O. Thompson were held Friday, July 14, 2017 in Holman-Howe Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Turner officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Springfield National Cemetery, under the care and direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon. Visitation will be immediately following the service in the funeral home. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society may be made through the funeral home.
