Zelda is back and better than ever

Thirty years ago, Nintendo was synonymous with video games. It was the king of the game. In fact, even to this day, my Mom still calls any video game system a Nintendo. But, and I hate to break this to you, Mom, Nintendo was dethroned by Microsoft and Sony. As Nintendo got more and more gimmicky with its game systems (and its core audience grew up to appreciate more mature games), Nintendo slowly fell to the wayside. However, if “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is any indication of the future, the king is back.

“Breath of the Wild,” which is available on Nintendo’s Wii U and new Switch consoles, is not only the best in the beloved “Zelda” series, but it is also one of the best video games that I’ve played in a long time. Saying it’s the best in the critically acclaimed “Zelda” series may make you skeptical, but as a fan of the series since “The Legend of Zelda” on the Nintendo Entertainment System, I can say without exaggeration that this is an experience unlike any in the series. It feels like this is the dream Shigeru Miyamoto, who also created Mario, had in 1986, but couldn’t quite make it a reality until now. This is one game that I would definitely say, “Believe the hype.”
