The Lebanon City Council has decided to join Laclede County in placing a use tax proposal on the. Aug. 7 election ballot.
The decision came at Monday night’s council meeting.
City Administrator Mike Shumacher explained the reason for the tax issue, which would allow the city to collect sales tax on internet and out of state purchases. People would pay the same city tax online they pay for local purchases.
“The issue is about a level playing field between our local businesses and internet sales,” Schumacher said.
